Thank you I tried your first post with Yahoo pipes and the technology seems to have changed so that it did not geocode generating instead a list saying NULL. Thanks for your own spreadsheet that way I know its Yahoo pipes not me. I have really learned a lot from these two post so now I have to catch up on the blog up to February 2012. By that time I might have a website up. Thanks again here from freezing France, snowed in, semi-hibernating, so working remotely is really ideal.

I recently acquired a job at a small community weekly. I'm their only staff reporter, so needless to say, they're working me like a dog (I think). This is my first week and I have five stories assigned to me to get done before press on Sunday while also being responsible for design/layout. My question is, how many stories a week should a journalist be required to write on average?

Thanks Mark. I suppose so. Absolute power etc etc. But I think that would be down to the individual rather than the post. Put it this way I don't see the next bond villain being a webed.

Thinking about it I suppose the newsroom structure and the support (or lack of it) that gives to an online ed might engender a siege mentality. But entrenched views, well, that's a newsroom wide issue.

Great piece Andy. One further question I would pose: Can the digital editor be a blocker to change? Hoarding knowledge from the newsroom so that they are indispensable?
